Be very careful with link building in general building links too quickly will get you no where. Make sure they are from reputable sites with relevant content. Also make sure that the anchor text pointing back to your site is in line with the keyword set that you are choosing to optimize for.
Most business owners start marketing their site on the net with Google or yahoo's pay per click program. What they don't realize is that they have a money making machine in their own site they just need to unlock it.
90% of all web sites can be optimized and an increase of traffic and sales will occur. When a web site is completely optimized traffic and sales can increase up to 6 times. So before you waste your time, look at a good SEO firm to help you on your way to success.

Pay Per Click Secrets

Although Google and Yahoo claim that managing a Pay per Click campaign is easy, we strongly disagree. Sure, opening an account, choosing some keywords, and setting up a budget is a piece of cake. But making more money than the campaign is costing you is a real challenge.
This article will provide you with a great insight on some advanced techniques that we use for our own clients. Three out of five people that start a Pay per Click campaign lose money and every single one of our clients makes money; so we must be doing something right. Pay attention and get ready for the most useful article you will ever read on PPC campaign management.
Concentrate on the Segments of the Market that You Can ServeMake sure that you are very specific about how you can solve a need. For example, one of our clients is an English school in Denver. They offer accent reduction courses for foreign executives that want to sound more American. When they were managing their own campaign they were losing a lot of money going after the keyword “accent reduction”. The reason was that people wanted to get rid of their accents in a lot of different ways (cassettes, CDs, computer software, teleseminars, and one-on-one phone consultations) but our client offers classes on the subject. We did three things about it: we started using keywords like “accent reduction class” instead of just “accent reduction”, we changed the ad to something like “Accent Reduction Class in Denver, CO”, and we used negative keywords (software, phone, book, CD, cassette, etc.) to filter out unqualified prospects.
Create a Landing Page for Each of Your Top KeywordsFigure out what keywords get you most of the traffic. If you have 1,000 keywords in your campaign, chances are that 10 of them are getting 90% of the traffic. Create a landing page for each one of them. Driving all your PPC traffic to your home page is probably the most common mistakes that people make.
Use Long-Tail Keywords A long-tail keyword is the opposite of a general keyword. For example, “cars” is a broad keyword and “2002 Honda Accord” is a long-tail keyword. A specific term doesn’t have as many searches as broad terms but it will cost you a lot less and will bring you much more qualified prospects. Someone searching for “cars” is not very likely to become a paying customer any time soon. But someone searching for “buy 2002 Honda Accord in Chicago” is.
Use Locations, Brands, and ModelsLet’s go back to the cars example. Bidding for the term “cars” will cost you a lot and bring you a great percentage of unqualified visitors. So why not break down the market based on the areas you serve, brands, and models you offer? For example: Honda Accord Chicago, Honda Accord New York, Honda Civic Chicago, Ford Mustang Austin, and so on.

Page Rank Or Traffic: What should we do?

Most of people have lots of confusion with Page Rank and Traffic. We should know what they are.

PR has nothing whatsoever to do with traffic. PR has the same role as your toothpaste in making your site more "prominent".

Your blogs PR depends on the worldwide links pointing to your website. ... it relies on the quality of such links, not necessarily on the abundance nor in how many visits you get to your page.

If the purpose of your Web site is get a high PR, then by all means, go for PR. But if you're looking to make money from your Web site, go for traffic, and lots of it. Visitors spend money, not search engines. Only a percentage of visitors to any site convert to money-spending customers. If that percentage remains constant, it stands to reason that more visitors means more conversions and more conversions means more money. I defy anyone to show me a single instance of a visitor buying a product, any product, online because the site from which they bought the item had a particular PR.

SEO and PR are not the same thing. One has very little, if anything at all, to do with the other. Don't confuse the two or try to connect them.

High PR has nothing to do with Traffic. Most of the people are having High PR but not having quality traffic. I would suggest to focus your efforts on generating quality traffic for higher amount of money. Only that way you can be successful online. This advice is specially for small to medium sized businesses.

Link Building Tactics to Boost Your Traffic

Link Building is very important to get Traffic. It improves Page rank of the blog.

Page Rank is a very important thing for many Advertisers. These are some tips for Link building

Just ask nicely. Simply ask visitors to your site to link to you. And they will, as long as you have an engaging website, with relevant information, a unique view, in other words, if you offer something that not many others do.

Provide a “link to us” page. Make sure it includes stuff like URL(s), logo and an anchor text they can use.

Create interesting lists (ahem!). Write a “101” list or a “Top Ten Tips to...” list. This kind of document becomes an “authority” opinion and will naturally get links.

Offer to be a guest writer. Send an email to a magazine, ezine, blog, or online journal, and let them know you’d be interested in contributing an article to share your valuable expertise.

Offer testimonials. If there is a tool you’ve tested or bought recently, go to their website and see if there is a testimonials section. Write in with your review/opinion and kindly ask them to link back to you.

Get your website listed. Submit it to several directories, but remember that quality matters, so submit it to the good ones.

Submit Your Blog and RSS Feed. Submit to Blog directories and RSS submission sit

Make use of Web 2.0 resources. Use MySpace, Facebook, MSN Spaces, whatever you feel most comfortable with, to promote your site.

Write articles for Hubpages. Submit quality articles, comment on other hubs, post in the forums, and you’ll get a hubscore plus quality links.

Post free ads. Websites like Free Ad Blog and Free Blog Post allow you to post two to three links to your site.

Participate on Blogs. Leave your comments, network with them, email them, link to them, and they’ll surely link back to you.

Make many different Blogs. On sites like Blogger or Wordpress.

Post on forums and groups. Find the largest and the best in your field.

Post in Ebay Blogs. Post your link within your blog, and you can actually say you have a link from Ebay!

Acknowledge the contribution of experts. Write about them, review one of their books or articles, or even compile a list of experts like, “The Five Definitive Experts on...”. There’s a good chance they’ll notice you and link back to you. Interview a guru or get permission from him to post his work, articles, e-book.

Make use of local resources. Get a link from your local chamber of commerce.

Sponsor an event
. These all link to their sponsors.

Offer useful tools. Calculators, conversion, translation tools; they’re naturals for getting lots of links, as people are often in need of good, quality tools.

Promoting Your Site at Google (Page Rank)

To achieve high page rankings in Google can take anywhere from 90 days to 2 years.

Dependent on how much work you are willing to put into it.

One of the best (No $ Cost) ways I have found to promote your website is by writing and posting Information Rich, ARTICLES. Do not try to sell your product, but give to your potential consumers free valuable information. Post a link back to your website in your signature, and in 8-18 months, the seed(s) you have planted in your articles will start trickling then flooding into your website.

I would suggest writing a 3-4 paragraph article about your industry or product every 2 days, also searching Google for a FREE Article Submitter software.

There are Thousands of Article Sites on the internet. This will help you spread out your ... seeds in a larger field. Also providing many back links to your website, which of course will be providing higher Google page ratings, and LASTING SUCCESS!

Also, if you have a good marketing Budget you can always look into Pay Per Click (PPC) advertising such as Google Ad Words, or Yahoo. This can get pricey depending on your Target Audience. However, once you stop your PPC campaign, your leads will dry up as well. I use PPC as a fill the gaps when I am building a new website, and waiting for the (SEEDS) Articles to build a solid back link foundation.

To recap, Writing and Posting Information Rich Articles are a great way to generate lead producing back links to your website. Pay Per Click advertising is another good way to generate short term leads, yet may not be cost effective in the long term.

I hope this information has been helpful.

How To Make Your Blog Popular

Here are some common ways to get traffic to your website:

1. SEO techniques (i.e., linkbuilding, choosing profitable and relevant keywords for your site, etc).
2. Pay per click advertising
3. traffic exchanges (feel free to PM me if you want a full list of traffic exchanges I use). If you go that route, you will want to create a splash page for your website, and plan on spending at least 2 hours a day surfing other peoples' ads and sites for best results (ideally, you should go for 1000 credits per day minimum for optimum results).
4. putting your website url in your signature file in forums like this one and participate. Warning: avoid forums where sig files are not allowed or where linking even to your own website is forbidden. Any other ones is fair game. Myspace has forums that you can participate in, by the way (pretty convenient if you are looking for forums to join).
5. offline promotion. I am actually kicking around this idea myself. You could put up fliers about your website, put ads in the newspaper if you have the money, buy and distribute business cards (vista print, for example offers custom business cards), setting up kiosks at malls or booths at fairs where welcome, putting ads on cars, etc. Also, word of mouth could be your friend among your warm audience (such as showing off your ssites to friends).
6. article marketing (tends to be another popular tactic). Beware: if your article looks more like a sale pitch, it will get rejected, and so you will have to mask your promotion efforts with them.
7. blogging (I use blog spot, but you could also create blogs via myspace, wordpress, etc)
8. Social networking sites- note that you will have to mask your promotion efforts with these sites due to anti-commercial use policies.
9. Including your links in your signature file on the email programs you can use. Also, both hotmail and yahoo have autoresponders that you can set up that includes information about your site.
10. Hiring people to promote your site for you and split your earnings. I have installed a revenue sharing program for 2 of my websites, which aims to encourage my visitors to refer other visitors by offering 30% of the commissions I make from those transactions.
